False Prophets!
Apparently, the world is ending 21st May at 6:00PM according to an 89-year-old preacher in the U.S. Mr Harold Camping. People have talked about it at our work and schools besides the news media giving it plenty of airplay. Jesus said, “Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour in which the Son of Man is coming.” Matthew 25:13.
Sadly Mr Camping’s false teaching will stir up more disbelief in the reality of Christ’s true coming and the true teaching of God’s Word on the events of the ‘last days’. In the meantime, what should we as Christian, be doing?
Four things! Firstly, we should be watching for Christ’s real coming. Jesus said, Blessed are those servants whom the master, when he comes, will find watching. Luke 12:37.
Secondly, we need to be ready to go! The Apostle Paul tells us we should be living a life of expectancy. Phil 3:12-14. Is your life with Christ right now? Are there things that you should change?
Thirdly, we should not only be ready, but we should be anxiously awaiting Christ’s return. Jesus said, And you yourselves be like men who wait for their master, when he will return from the wedding, that when he comes and knocks they may open to him immediately Luke 12:36.
Finally, we should be working. Jesus said, Blessed is that servant whom his master will find so doing when he comes. Luke 12:43. If watching is the evidence of faith, then working is the evidence of faith in action. Watching for the Lord’s return will help us prepare our lives, but working will assure that we bring others with us! Notice Jesus used the word blessed, in connection with living this way in Luke 12.
Blessed means happy and it is a happy thing to be a Christian, to be looking for Christ’s real return according to God’s Word.
The Apostle Paul taught, Now concerning how and when all this will happen, dear brothers and sisters, we don’t really need to write you. 2 For you know quite well that the day of the Lord’s return will come unexpectedly, like a thief in the night. 3 When people are saying, “Everything is peaceful and secure,” then disaster will fall on them as suddenly as a pregnant woman’s labour pains begin. And there will be no escape. 4 But you aren’t in the dark about these things, dear brothers and sisters, and you won’t be surprised when the day of the Lord comes like a thief 1Thess 5:
