Found wanting…
In the Book of Daniel chapter 5 there is this amazing story of the king of Babylon, some years after the reign of Nebuchadnezzar and this new young king’s name was Belshazzar. One night this young king decide to throw a wild party, nothing was held back including using the captured utensils from Jerusalem used for the worship of the one and true God of Israel. The party was in full swing when all of a sudden a hand appeared and wrote on a wall these words..Mene, Mene, Tekel, Upharsin which translated meant, ‘you life has been weighed up and you have been found wanting’.
There is so much that goes on in the time in which we live where there seems to be no concern or regard for the outcome, anything goes as there is no thought of accountability. But this is another sad indictment of the distance we as a people have moved away from God and His standards. The Bible says in the Book of Hebrews 9:27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment.
That night, Belshazzar lost his life to the attacking Medes and Persians as they sacked Babylon. If your life was to be ‘weighed up’ as was Belshazzrs, would you be found wanting or found right before God? Each and every one of us will face this moment. For death comes to all. The only way to be found ‘right’ before God is to be a man or woman who has received Christ’s gift of life through His death and resurrection. Tonight, call on the one and only true God and confess your sins before Him and He will tip the scales for you to an eternity of grace and peace. Don’t follow Belshazzar’s example…if you do the writing is on the wall…for you!
Jesus Christ came to take away the sting of death and give you the gift of eternal life – you only have but to ask for it.
