Norway tragedy…Ethiopia…
Our hearts break as we see the events of Norway where a man sets off a car bomb and then in cold blood fatality shoots people on a camp. More than 90 people dead. Then our television screens open us up to the horrific scenes of drought, tribal warfare and the starvation of thousands occuring again in Ethiopia.
It is at times like these that people ask that most difficult of questions…why?
When God created this world we find Him saying the things He created were good, in fact very good. It was a garden paradise. But then we know that Adam and Eve fell in sin by disobeying God’s commandment, they attempted to become independent of God and the world changed…thorns grew, Adam had to then toil in a world that had become hostile, the animal world changed its behaviour and death entered the world for all. We today continue at this time to live in this fallen world that is filled with death, tears and pain.
But God, set about to re-new things once again. But He would not do it by forcing people to obey Him. So He sent His only begotten Son Jesus Christ to be born of a virgin some 2,000 years ago just as He promised He would to Adam and Eve way back in time.
This man was no ordinary man, the Bible tells us He was the Son of Man and the Son of God – He was God with skin!
He revealed Himself to this world and brought hope, peace and even raised the dead, but then He was murdered on a cruel cross even though the Romans said He was indeed innocent. He was killed because He declared Himself to be God! Three days later He rose from the dead and was seen of 5oo over a period of 40 days. Then He ascended into heaven. But He says He is coming back and He is going to set things right – when is this going to happen?
The Bible says we are living in the very season the times that Jesus would come back and the biggest sign we were to look for was the re-birth of the nation Israel which occured in 1948. The Bible says no man knows the day or the hour of His return but we were told to watch and pray and be ready!
As you and I see the scenes such as the events in Norway, Ethiopia they surely remind us that Jesus must come back soon.
If you are heartbroken over these things I wonder how our Lord’s heart is even more. For this is His creation, the Bible tells us He loves us and wills that none should perish. Let us join with the Apostle John in what is the last prayer written in God’s Word…Even so, come Lord Jesus – Rev 22:20
