Wings on $26 billion….
“The Australian share market has fallen steeply for a second straight day, after US shares dropped sharply on negative economic data. The Australian dollar has tracked the market’s losses as around $26 billion has been wiped off the value of Australia’s top 200 listed companies.” ABC News 3rd August 2011.
There was $26 billion dollars in company values that one minute were there and the next gone! As the world teeters on the brink of another Global Financial Crisis, I am reminded again of the words of Solomon who said, In the blink of an eye wealth disappears, for it will sprout wings and fly away like an eagle – Proverbs 23:5 It is a remarkable thing that the wealthier nations like Australia, that have plenty of food, medical care and shelter, are those most affected and worried by the rise and fall of stocks, shares and other financial fall outs.
Jesus gives us some powerful and ever more meaningful words for us living in these times of financial boom and bust. Luke 12: Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and he will give you everything you need. 32 “So don’t be afraid, little flock. For it gives your Father great happiness to give you the Kingdom.33 “Sell your possessions and give to those in need. This will store up treasure for you in heaven! And the purses of heaven never get old or develop holes. Your treasure will be safe; no thief can steal it and no moth can destroy it. 34 Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be.
Where are your treasures and what are they? Jesus would have us know that if we seek to build treasures here, they will cause us great worry and heartache and sprout wings. Could it be that a large amount of the worry and anxiety our lives are often filled with we bring upon ourselves?
What a pity that things, stuff, charts and spreadsheets, inanimate objects we can allow to dominate and rule our lives.
Instead of a ‘sea-change’ experience in your life how about an investment change. Jesus promises such a change will change your life forever. In fact He says it will change the focus of your heart and give you eternal wealth! It will also remove worry!
