When your heart hungers for heaven…
There are times when my heart hungers truly for heaven. It is usually in my quiet time with the Lord. Very often with a hymn playing in the background and my mind is captured by the wonder of eternal life and our future existence in the presence of the living God in heaven.
It is as the Psalmist says, Psalm 42:1 As the deer pants for the water brooks, So pants my soul for You, O God.
Psa 42:2 My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God?
It reminds me of Paul’s predicament and prayer, 2 Cor 5:8 We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord.
But it is the Lord who truly visits us all at that moment as well and reminds us of the work we each have been given now to do. Of loved ones and friends, work colleagues, class mates and neighbours who do not know the love of Jesus Christ.
The next time when your heart hungers for heaven, rejoice in it, and then seize that joy and use it to drive you to prayer, to witness and to love those that Christ died for and yet have not received the gift of eternal life….heaven is a beautiful place…..
