Raising our eyes off ourselves…
Genesis 40: 6 And Joseph came in to them in the morning and looked at them, and saw that they were sad…and asked them “Why do you look so sad today?”
Joseph is this amazing young man who through godly providence ends up in jail having done no wrong. As we have been studying him over the past weeks, Joseph’s amazing godly character has just shone brighter than I have even seen before! Here he is in jail, yet even there Joseph is not bitter, angry, or consumed about his own welfare. No, he is sensitive and caring about fellow prisoners he has obviously befriended as he notes that on this particular day, they are sad. He does not go on about his own difficulties of life, no he takes time to offer support and care for these two fellow prisoners.
What another awesome example for you and I today as we live to serve Christ and glorify God in our everyday living. We sadly live in a world today that is scarcely caring in another’s difficulties or “sadness”.
I have noticed the way people now prayer since the community groups have started here at CCSH there has been a definite rise in the compassion and care for fellow members of the community groups people participate in. The way people pray for people unable to attend due to sickness or some other incident, or even if a family is on vacation, they are prayed for and deeply missed.
As we gather this coming Sunday morning and evening to glorify God, or as you read this blog from your home in another country, may we follow Joseph’s example and take our eyes off ourselves and our situations and place them upon those around us who…….perhaps are sad! In His grace – Keith
