Courageous Christianity…

Calvary Chapel Secret Harbour   -

With the recent time of remembrance for Anzac Day just passed, we heard and read about so many acts of courage. Many times these acts of courage led to the death of the person doing something extra ordinary in battle.
The word courage is defined in Webster’s Dictionary as “That quality of mind which enables one to encounter danger and difficulties with firmness, or without fear, or fainting of heart; valor; boldness; resolution.”
Sunday nights we have been studying the Book of Joshua with Joshua being commanded, at the beginning of his ministry and leadership by the Lord, to be strong and very courageous, that you may observe to do according to all the Law which Moses my servant commanded you….God repeated these words just a few verses later to Joshua…Have I not commanded thee? Be strong and of good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed…for the Lord thy God is with you wherever you go…!
To live the Christian life then and now requires great courage! But this courage is not to do something heroic in battle as such. No this courage is to live a life in full obedience to God’s Word. To not make up excuses why you can’t do what it says in your life, in your situation. Too often I sadly hear Christians “cherry picking” the passages of Scripture, the commandments of God that they will obey. This cannot be so and this requires no courage.
Remember – 2Ti 3:16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 2Ti 3:17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.
My prayer for you today is that you will indeed be courageous in your walk with God. You will not make up excuses or attempt to justify as to why your situation, your life is ‘outside’ of what God expects you to do.
The result of a courageous Christian life the Lord tells us in Joshua is….then you shall make your way prosperous and then shalt you have good success.
The Apostle John tells us in the Book of Revelation that there is no room in heaven for cowardice.
May you, with God’s help, live a courageous life for Christ and for His glory!
