The Power of Patience….
You would have to agree we live in a very impatient world. We get impatient when we are “too long” in a drive through fast food lane. We are talking serious minutes here! On our roads patience is a very rare commodity indeed.
I think that our world’s impatience is a by product of our living further away from God.
It’s interesting that James tells us that the trying of our faith works patience. James goes on to tell us to let patience have its work in our lives that we may mature in our walk with God and having contentment.
Proverbs 16:32 He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city.
The word patience means – endurance when circumstances are difficult. It is the opposite of despondency. The word is never used in reference to God, for God does not face difficult circumstances. The Bible says that nothing is impossible with God.
Patience is an important characteristic of the maturing Christian life.
If we do not learn to be patient, we are not likely to learn anything else.
We must never think that patience is complacency. Patience is endurance in action.
It is not the Christian sitting in a rocking chair, waiting for God to do something. It is the soldier on the battlefield, keeping on when the going is tough.
We live in a world of a quitting lifestyle.
Yet the majority of the world’s great inventions have come from those who have not known the word quit.
Daniel when praying, set himself to pray for 3 weeks,…… listen to what the angel said Then said he unto me, Fear not, Daniel: for from the first day that thou didst set thine heart to understand, and to chasten thyself before thy God, thy words were heard, and I am come for thy words.
13 But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me one and twenty days: but, lo, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me; and I remained there with the kings of Persia.
What if Daniel had stopped and not kept on!
May we pray for God to help all of us to learn to be patient, especially in our praying.
