The truth of the matter….
Remember that classic line in the movie, “A Few Good Men”, starring Tom Cruise and Jack Nicholson – “You can’t handle the truth!” I want to ask you, do you always handle the truth?
I recently listened to an interview by a local talk show presenter in Perth who said, “surely the Bible and what it says needs to change and keep up with the changing world.”
How do you make decisions, on what do you base your values, what filter do you run your views, opinions, morals, philosophies and view of the world?
One of the biggest problems we find in the church today in Australia is the biblical illiteracy of many of those attending. The BIBLE! It’s where you find the foundation of your faith.
2Ti 3:16 All scripture [is] given by inspiration of God, and [is] profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
Profitable for doctrine – what is right
For reproof – what is not right
For correction – how to get right
And for instruction in righteousness – how to stay right!
When 1000 Australians were quizzed by a recent Nielsen poll.
HOLY BOOK IS LITERALLY TRUE: The Nielsen poll shows Christians (25 per cent) are far less committed to the literal truth of their text than other religions (50 per cent). Non-believers had a touching – though perhaps ironic – commitment (34 per cent) to the literal truth of texts they believe carry no divine imprimatur.
The question we are going to ask and respond to is “do you have a Biblical view of all that has happened, is happening and is going to happen concerning you and the world in which you live.”
For example what do you think, when I say that Jesus is the only way to know God, that the Bible is the only inspired book given to us by God.
What do you believe or know is truth?
Today we have a new system of belief – Moral Relativism
Its gospel is that there is no right or wrong. Moral relativists hold that no universal standard exists by which to assess an ethical proposition’s truth. It teaches that we are all products of the evolutionary process. There is no God, no plan, nor purpose for our lives, No such thing as the Devil.
Moral relativism teaches us that we make our own luck, that we are all basically good and it’s the environment to blame we are in, if we go off the rails. We make our own truth.
I find it more than interesting that man’s philosophy’s and psychological studies have continued to change over the years. Depending on when you had your academic training, the text books you studied as the ‘truth’ at that time have differed to those studying in later years. A classical example of this surely is the massive variations of child rearing!
We need the truth. The Bible tells us that God’s Word remains the same, it never changes.
Psa 119:89 For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven.
Isn’t that what truth really is and can only ever be. Truth cannot change otherwise its no longer the truth!
I pray that you will be a man or woman of the truth. That to God’s Word you will turn your heart and all your actions, decisions and thoughts, from the viewpoint of truth – that is a biblical view on the matter!
Bless you as you live in God’s truth, a truth that never changes!
