Praying without words….
There are sometimes in our lives when we reach a point of exhaustion. When we sense that our ‘spiritual gas tank’ is empty and this is often accompanied by a physical weariness as well.
Could it be that it is due to the ongoing spiritual battle we wage daily that Paul describes in Ephesians 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
It is at those moments, those times, that my prayer life changes considerably in its manner. I am no longer asking for this or for that or actually saying any words at all. My prayer time becomes even more intimate, entering a place where I am saying nothing whatsoever but trusting in the Holy Spirit to guide my inner most thoughts to my heavenly Father in a way only He can.
Paul describes this in the Book of Romans – Rom 8:26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Rom 8:27 And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.
It is in those moments I believe that God by His grace and love refreshes our inner most being in a way like no other.
The next time you reach that moment of ‘weariness’ enter into your prayer closet and find rest for your soul in the very presence of your heavenly Father.
It is by no coincidence that the verse following these verses on prayer says Rom 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
Its God telling us He has everything in hand and to continue to place out trust totally in Him.
