Spring clean…
What is your treasure…?
Matthew 6: 19 “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; 20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
When you visit the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem your preconceived ideas and pictures in your mind of how it would appear take a solid shaking when you enter this historic location. It is off course the church built over the ‘stable’ site of Jesus birthplace, which actually was a cave.
On entering you come across a site that will remind you of a garage sale with all matter of things hanging up and all sorts of lanterns etc strategically placed there by the three religious denominations that claim its ownership. It is certainly not a treasure to behold!
Our own hearts can be like that. Jesus enters our lives as we receive Him as our Lord and Saviour and He takes up residency in our hearts by His Holy Spirit.
But many times our hearts start to get filled with junk. Our new passions begin to be hung up and take space and before long our own hearts resemble that yard sale look of the inside of the Church of the Nativity.
Perhaps God has speaking to you about the clutter in your own life?
Have you become so focused on things and stuff now that His presence and His voice have become lost amidst the junk?
It’s time to make our heart a single treasure dwelling. A place where our Lord is Lord!
When you do this you will find your heart clean, swept and single focused again and filled with joy, the joy of the Lord. It’s a joy that cannot be stolen, lost or will ever decay!
