Do what is right, in God’s eyes!
The Book of Judges series ….
We begin this Sunday a new series in the Book of Judges. Even though it was written over 3,000 years past, it has amazing parallels in it with how we in Australia are living our lives today. The key verse in Judges that states the theme of the book is found in Judges 21:25 – Everyone did what was right in his own eyes.
How often for example have you heard someone make the statement, “I worship God in my own way!” This is exactly what the children of Israel did in the Book of Judges and it was a painful period in their history.
In addition, they were commanded by God to drive out the inhabitants of Canaan land, the land God had promised to them. But the children of Israel did a half-hearted job at this and thus they were continually plagued by these tribes.
So too today, many Christians have a half-hearted approach to obeying God and then they wonder why their lives too are plagued by old habits and troubling relationships that God said were to be finished and cut off.
What about you today? Are you worshipping God in your own way? Have you created your own virtual religion?
Or have you disobeyed the commandments of God and continued to live with half your life in the world and the other in His Word? Are you still dabbling in things that ruled your old life? Things that God said you were to cut off.
As we journey through the Book of Judges starting this Sunday, you will see your life in many passages just as I have in preparing for this series. May our prayer be one of giving total obedience to God, to trust in Him in giving us the victory over old habits? In addition, may we not be half-hearted in our relationship with God and attempt to worship God how when and where we seem fit.
It is a sad and dangerous path to follow in doing so. Let us learn in this study that there is a continual need for spiritual revival in our lives each and every day!
