Poor in spirit….what does it mean?

Poor in spirit…what does it mean?
Being poor in spirit means being aware of our own spiritual poverty before Almighty God.
It also means being conscious of our total dependence upon God!
This is a very good thing!
Jesus said to those who were poor in spirit, Mat 5:3 Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
The kingdom of heaven is theirs!
Children depend upon their parents for protection and care. Because of this relationship of dependence, children are NOT poor, but if it wasn’t for their relationship with their parents, they would instead be helpless and poor in deed!
Dependent children spend very little time worrying about food, clothing and a place to live. They assume – and they have the absolute right – that all those things will be provided by their father and mother.
When we come to Jesus Christ, we become children of God, and we too can trust that our heavenly Father will provide all these things for us.
As I grow older both in years of age and years of walking with my Lord, my dependency upon Him increases with every day. It is a blessed and restful way to live!
I know I was once a lost independent sheep, but now Christ has found me. Now I am safe under His constant care and protection and He always provides food, shelter and safety. For He is now my Good Shepherd!
I pray that today you will commit those areas of your life that you are independent in and turn them completely over to Jesus Christ – your Shepherd!
