Weddings vows, do you remember yours?
Wedding vows are made at every wedding ceremony. Yes, there are many vows that don’t seriously belong in a wedding ceremony but would be better suited on a $1 birthday card for someone you’re buying a bottle opener for or a right handed screw driver. They really carry no substance or meaning.
Wedding vows are important. I think in fact they are the most important part of the whole wedding day. Every couple getting married says them.
But it seems they are quickly forgotten and for many sadly in time completely overlooked.
Can you remember your wedding vows?
They were in fact promise of faithfulness and love. They were the words spoken and witnessed by all at the ceremony. They were not a poem or a filler for the ceremony, they were THE wedding!
Our ignorance of wedding vows is akin to the acceptance these days of promises being made but not having to be kept. Could I suggest it has a greater reach also?
Last Sunday we heard that there were more than over 7,000 promises to be found in the Bible. Our society as a whole champions the mantra to “trust no one, have faith in no one, and you don’t really have to keep your promises.”
I am so glad that no matter what, God keeps His promises.
As God’s children we also are to keep ours. The Bible tells us to be careful and mindful of making promises, but once we do we are to keep them.

Ecc 5:4 When thou vowest a vow unto God, defer not to pay it; for he hath no pleasure in fools: pay that which thou hast vowed.
Ecc 5:5 Better is it that thou shouldest not vow, than that thou shouldest vow and not pay.
