What to wear to War!
“The Last of the Mohicans”
Daniel Day Lewis trained for many months in the lead up to this film. His training including him carrying the long musket rifle with him wherever he went, learning to run with it, eat with it and to never have it not by his side. To have it clean and always ready to use. Why?
Because your very life was dependent upon it during battle.
In Ephesians 6 verse 11 Paul tells us to Put on the whole armour of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
Now in verse 13 Paul repeats this….command.
Eph 6:13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
The word therefore tells us…based on the battle, who we are fighting against….take up the whole armour of God….that you may be able to….
The Greek language and tense here is very important, it is literally a one off action, it’s a military command! Its given with a curtness a snap and it is a one off order.
Meaning, put on the armour and never never take it off!
1Pe 5:8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.
Why are we to wear this spiritual armour?
Is it really necessary?
What good is it?
Paul tells us it is so we can withstand …stand against, resist, oppose….
The adverb able there is the word DUNAMI, it means powerful.
So Paul is saying, put on the armour of God and you are powerfully ready to go to battle, you are ready to deal with conflict, you are protected when the enemy launches his attack upon you.
Eph 6:14 Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness,
Notice the repeat of the word stand…
God has given to us that which we need to not crumple no matter what the enemy throws against us!
Before we go any further, notice it says so we can STAND, not cower, not run, not lose, not crumble in defeat! Its about time we as Christians realized that we win when we fight in the Lord’s strength and in His will equipped with His weapons and armour!
We live our lives according to victory in the cross and power of Jesus Christ, King of kings and Lord of lords, God Almighty!
As Paul is writing this under 24 hour guard alongside him every moment of the day was a Roman soldier in full armour, sword strapped to his side!
Paul uses these soldiers attire standing next to him to describe our armour that is made in heaven!
Keep your armour on at all costs!
