From the Pastor’s Desk –
This last Wednesday evening here at CCSH at our men’s meeting, I spoke to the men about what defines them, how do they identify themselves with others in their every day living. Easy way to answer – are you more affected by a movie that you watch or a sermon you hear? Is your enthusiasm for sport, video games higher for these than for pursuing Christ likeness? In your thoughts do you have more of the sounds of the world, the latest albums rather than letting the Word of Christ richly dwell within them? Our priorities, passions and plans are to be grounded in Jesus Christ – they must be! For only in Him can we or will we ever find true satisfaction! He is to be the object of our affections, ambitions and hopes. If this world were all there was, we would be wise to amass treasure and search for happiness in the here and now. But that is not the reality. The world is NOT all there is! Reality – true reality is revealed by the truth of God’s Word, the Bible and it encompasses far more than temporal pleasures, priorities and the pursuits of this world. People can deny reality, they can distract themselves with fantasy, but they cannot change the fact that one-day they will stand before God. Heb 9:27 And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment, Luke 12: 20 But God said to him, ‘Fool! This night your soul will be required of you; then whose will those things be which you have provided?’ 21 “So is he who lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God. “Jesus words are a wake up call for those who profess to know God and yet live as though God were no more real than whatever movie they last watched! Any entertainment, though enjoyable in the moment, is not eternal. Our identity is defined by Jesus Christ, we are Christians, and society does not define us. We are called to deny ourselves, take up our cross and follow Him. We are called to walk in a thankful holiness!
