Definition of sin
Came across this definition of sin that really encapsulates what sin is – it was penned by Dr Myron Augsbuger, “Sin is the perversion of the good; it is the cheaper form of something better. Sin is not just things that we have done; rather, it is a perversion of the very core of our being that causes us to deify self and demand our own way. In this self-centeredness, we are persons formed in our own image, rather than what we were created to be – persons created in God’s image.
The answer to our sin is not simply restitution for a few bad things that we have done. The answer is to turn to God and open ourselves to Him. All sin is ultimately against God.”
Since the first deception to Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden by Satan, Satan still continues using the same lie, that God’s plan and purpose in our lives is inferior to that which we can achieve in and of ourselves.
As we look at our world today, we see the tragic result of humanity taking this path to its own destruction.
Pro 14:12 There is a way that seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death.
Is it not ironic that two centuries of scientific and technological achievements seem to have convinced humanity that God has no part in the creation and some even believe that there is no God. It is like a child so absorbed with their own paper plane, that they are oblivious to the jumbo jet taking him around the world.
The problem is still the same as in the Garden of Eden. That being that people do not want to do what they know to be right. Instead, they seek after their own wills, just as Adam and Eve did in disobedience to God’s Word, contrary to His will, and in the prophetic words of the prophet Hosea 8:7, – “They sow the wind, And reap the whirlwind….
Paul in writing to the church in Rome said, Rom 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
As the writer of proverbs said, so too did the Apostle Paul in the other half of his declaration to the Christians in Rome….the wages of sin is death….Rom 6:23
The cause is our wilfulness and the tragic price to those who follow such a path is separation from God for all eternity!
May we today, especially in this time of refining and sifting, not follow in the footsteps of those who have chosen to ignore the will of God and His purpose and plan for our lives.
I have lived the life of when I rebelliously demanded and followed my own way – and they were the loneliest, saddest and most tragic years of my life.
Now that I have received Christ as my Lord and Saviour, been baptised and put to death my old life, now I walk with God and follow His voice in every area of my life. And I am blessed!
