From the Pastor’s Desk
It’s only 68 days until we celebrate the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ in what we call Christmas. Already my thoughts are looking to our teaching up to that date and then of course our special Christmas Eve Service here at CCSH. I am not sure if it is just me, but the excitement of the lead up to Christmas always takes me back to my childhood days. The church services, the summer weather and that special Christmas Eve service. My mind filled with the story of Joseph and Mary, her pregnancy, the long arduous journey to Bethlehem to pay their tax and be part of the census. The sad news on arrival of there being no room in the inn for this little family. As a child I would wonder how nobody would give them a room, some shelter! But all those things quickly faded when Jesus was born, and the shepherds rushed from their flocks following the angel’s directions to that little stable (actually a cave). For there they saw the baby Jesus, the Messiah, the King of kings and Lord of lords. When your problems are overwhelming, when your life seems an unfair journey, and people have no time or room for you, remember that night in Bethlehem! For your Saviour and my Lord came to bring us hope! That hope is still available to any today who would, like the shepherds, leave their fields of labour and run to kneel at the feet of Jesus. Christmas is coming – don’t lose hope but remember the birth of the Son of God who came to reveal God’s love for you and to suffer and die so that you might live. Praise the Lord!
