From 1817, the title of “Australia” came into use. Over 160,000 convicts were transported to this ‘penal’ colony at the bottom of the world! In 1830, there were approximately 70,000 white settlers being the minority of the population with more than 200,000 indigenous folk residing. The first Christian preacher in Australia, or “New Holland” as it was then termed, was the Rev. Richard Johnson who arrived with the First Fleet in January 1788. Rev Johnson is quoted as saying, “It is my duty to preach to all, to pray for all, and to admonish everyone.” The first ever Christian service of public worship occurred at 10:00am on Sunday, February 3, 1788 under what was called ‘a great tree’ close to the harbour and here Johnson preached from Psalm 116:12 – What shall I render unto the Lord for all His benefits toward me? I will take the cup of salvation and call upon the name of the Lord. It was said that during the sermon, the behaviour of the convicts was ‘regular and attentive!” Today, the 24th of January 2021, some 233 years later where is our nation in its relationship to our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ? But most importantly, where do you stand in your relationship with your Creator? Our past may be chequered like our nation, but when we accept that Jesus Christ died on the cross for us and paid the debt for all our sins, our future is now one of hope, joy and life. Col 1:13 says.. He has delivered us from the dominion of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, We have been transported from the chains of sin to glory through the death and resurrection and power of the gospel of Jesus Christ. No longer convicts under sins chains, but free now to worship Him who saved us!
Faithful Servants
CCSH is growing, yet since Covid’s inception our servant numbers have not kept with the growth. The church requires, Sunday school teachers, greeters, ushers, coffee servers, and cleaners. These vacancies exist to give you an opportunity to bless faithfully the body of Christ here at Calvary. Our prayer is that we will be overwhelmed with saints, who in 2021 will faithfully love the saints here by serving them in some capacity. Be a blessing and sign up to serve! Start today.
Helen’s Heart –
Am I now seeking favour of people or God? Am I trying to please people? I am not a servant of Christ if I am still trying to please people – Galatians 1:10 Often our actions can be directed by our thoughts of what ‘they’ think. This can put a heavy load on us. Rather we should concern ourselves with what He thinks. As the Psalmist said, I have set the Lord always before me. Psalm 16. There is joy in trying to please Him and in doing so we cannot help but share this joy with others. Joy is something that is multiplied when it is divided.
Prayer – Join us as we pray each Sunday morning at 9:30 am for the Lord’s blessing and protection over all our services and His ministries here at CCSH. In particular commit your time to pray here Wednesday’s at 7:00PM. (No prayer no power) We continue to receive prayers requests to our web page form people asking us to pray for their situation – what a blessed ministry opportunity this is! Prayer commences this Wednesday, 20thJanuary here at the chapel. See you there!
Tithes and Offerings We don’t take an offering here at CCSH, but we do give a grace offering to our Lord of our first fruits. The offering box is at the back of the hall near the prayer box. 2 Cor 9:7..Every man according as he purposes in his heart, so let him give not grudgingly, or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver.
Once the service has commenced, especially the teaching of the Word of God, we ask that you remain seated so as not to be distraction to others during this most important time. Should you need to leave your seat the ushers on your return will direct you to a seat at the rear of the church – thank you.
