Christ’s resurrection – Awesome!
I love the story of the two sad disciples on the road to Emmaus found in Luke’s Gospel chapter 24:13-35. The death of Jesus Christ so cruelly they had witnessed and His burial, I cannot imagine how devastating that must have been for them!
Luke tells us that these two downhearted and shattered disciples, walking slowly on the road to Emmaus, were reeling physically and emotionally, just unloading onto one another the tragedy of previous days.
When the resurrected Jesus, unrecognised by these two, joined with them in their lonely journey, their hearts simply expressed how hurt and disillusioned they now were, unknowingly to their Lord – 14 And they talked together of all these things which had happened. 15 So it was, while they conversed and reasoned, that Jesus Himself drew near and went with them. 16 But their eyes were restrained, so that they did not know Him. 17 And He said to them, “What kind of conversation is this that you have with one another as you walk and are sad?”
Jesus then gave them the greatest bible study ever given and not recorded. 27 And beginning at Moses and all the Prophets, He expounded to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself.
What happened?
It is here that we get an inkling of the massive hit of power, jubilation, joy and simple amazement of how the resurrection of Jesus must have had on His disciples.
After breaking bread with them – Jesus vanished before their eyes!
32 And they said to one another, “Did not our heart burn within us while He talked with us on the road, and while He opened the Scriptures to us?” 33 So they rose up that very hour and returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven and those who were with them gathered together, 34 saying, “The Lord is risen indeed,
Today, January 2021, this is how our hearts and joy should be as Christ’s disciples, for the impact, the power and jubilation of Christ resurrection from the dead, is still as wonderful and amazing for us, as it was to these two disciples hiking to Emmaus!
I pray that you take some time to enjoy Christ’s resurrection today as these two did back then. It’s AWESOME!
Ephesians 1:19 I also pray that you will understand the incredible greatness of God’s power for us who believe him. This is the same mighty power 20 that raised Christ from the dead and seated him in the place of honor at God’s right hand in the heavenly realms.
