Daily devotion – Thursday 22nd April 2021

Pastor Keith   -

Hebrews 2: “14 Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared in the same, that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, 15 and release those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.”

Yesterday, we had an amazing number of questions and then an ongoing discussion about death and dying with a couple of our grandchildren.

Children give more thought to death and dying than we give them credit for.

Alan aged 7 – “God doesn’t tell you when you are going to die because He wants it to be a big surprise!”

Raymond aged 10 – “ A good doctor can help you, so you won’t die. A bad doctor sends you to heaven.”

Stephanie aged 9 – Doctors help you, so you won’t die until  you pay all their bills.”

Ralph aged 8 – “When birds are ready to die they just fly to heaven.”

The grandkids firstly wanted to know if we were going to die. Secondly, what age will our bodies be when we are in heaven?

How comfortable are you with such a discussion with your loved ones? Are you able to talk freely about the matter or do you steer them away from the subject? Do such conversations make you ponder what lays ahead for you?

As believers we have a wealth of information found in God’s Word that will answer most but not all such questions.

But more importantly, are we ready for not just the discussion of death and dying but the reality that one day it will impact us all.

John 14:1 “Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. 2 In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also. 4 And where I go you know, and the way you know.”

Death for a Christian is not the end!

Billy Graham said, “One day you will hear people say that Billy Graham is dead. Don’t believe a word of it for I will be more alive that day than any other of my entire life!”
