“Desire the pure milk of the Word, that you may grow thereby” – 1 Peter 2:2
Our bodies need food to function and be healthy, so too our souls need spiritual food!
Without it we become weak and susceptible to every temptation and incapable of doing the work that the Lord calls us to do.
Where do we find our spiritual food? Only in the Word of God, the Bible. The Bible reveals Christ, who is the Bread of Life and the Water of Life. If we fail to take in this spiritual food, we will lose our spiritual vitality.
In some places in the world, there are those who do not have the capacity or the freedom to be able to read the Bible. But the majority if us cannot hide behind that excuse. The problem for most of us is not ‘having’ a Bible but taking the time to read and use the Bible.
Do not be content to simply skim through a chapter or pluck a verse from here and there expecting that to suffice. Instead, read it as if your life depended upon it. Meditate on it, memorize it as our Sunday school children are doing each week. Hide it in your heart so it permeates your whole being.
A small portion well digested is of far greater spiritual value than a lengthy passage lightly skimmed.
