Daily devotion – Wednesday 5th May 2021
Romans 15:16 – to be a minister of Christ Jesus to the Gentiles. He gave me the priestly duty of proclaiming the gospel of God, so that the Gentiles might become an offering acceptable to God, sanctified by the Holy Spirit.
D.L. Moody, a shoe salesman captured by Jesus Christ became one of the most effective soul-winners of all time, purposed in his heart as a young man that he would never let a day go in which he didn’t share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with at least one person!
On night it was approaching midnight, and because of the events of the day, he had not shared the Gospel with an unbeliever that particular day.
Moody went out on the streets of Chicago, found a man and said to him, “Sir, are you ready for Heaven?”
“Mind your own business,” was the sharp retort from the startled man.
“This is my business,” Moody answered.
Speaking with some of the young men Sunday night after the evening service we all agreed the urgency of the hour in which we are living. That sadly, many Church people are treating their relationship with God in an alarmingly casual manner. How blasé many are about the most serious of relationships. Especially after Pastor Israel had just finished teaching through Revelation 20 on the Great White Throne judgment that all unbelievers will face during the millennium. The Bible calls it the second death.
Like Moody, preaching the Gospel is our business as well, according to Jesus’ commandment to all believers, the Great Commission!
I have overseen many funerals at both Karrakatta and Fremantle Cemeteries. Always arriving one hour early before the funeral time, I walk through the headstones of the many graves. Each having a story behind them. Death is real, as real as sin.
It is at such times I feel the powerful call of God always back to the mission, my mission, your mission – to preach, to share the Gospel – for while the world plays games among the headstones, eternity is only a heartbeat away.
I pray that God is moving on your heart at this time in our world’s history. Are you for Him or are you against Him? Jesus said, “If you deny me, I will deny you!”.
There is nothing casual, part-time or easy going in our relationship with the Lord God Almighty, King of kings, Lord of lords, the Son of God, Creator of Heaven and earth.
Is God’s business your business?
