Daily devotion – Saturday 26th June 2021
It’s still just our first day in Jerusalem and we have already been to the Temple Mount and now exiting that location we head to the outside foundation walls of the last Temple.
This is a staggering venture back into the past and we arrive at 70 A.D. where under General Titus, Jerusalem, was laid waste and the Temple dismantled stone by stone.
We see and touch the giant stones that were heaved off the Temple Mount by the Roman soldiers as the Temple was set on fire.
Due to there being a significant amount of gold plating inside the Temple, especially in the Holy Place and the Holy of Holies, as the fire raged the gold melted and ran down between the stones.
The Romans soldiers, chasing this gold, therefore made sure that every wall and stone was torn apart or pushed over the edge so that they could recover the gold between each of the stones.
As you look at this giant heap of stones laying where they fell back in 70 A.D. you are taken back to Jesus words on the Mount of Olives to His disciples.
Matthew 24: 1 Then Jesus went out and departed from the temple, and His disciples came up to show Him the buildings of the temple. 2 And Jesus said to them, “Do you not see all these things? Assuredly, I say to you, not one stone shall be left here upon another, that shall not be thrown down.”
I love this part of the tour and spend quite some time just checking out this massive pile of stones laying where they fell from the original Temple.
Jesus said that in the last days scoffers would come, and Peter picked up this very point – 2 Peter 3:3 Most importantly, I want to remind you that in the last days scoffers will come, mocking the truth and following their own desires. 4 They will say, “What happened to the promise that Jesus is coming again? From before the times of our ancestors, everything has remained the same since the world was first created.”
5 They deliberately forget that God made the heavens by the word of his command, and he brought the earth out from the water and surrounded it with water. 6 Then he used the water to destroy the ancient world with a mighty flood. 7 And by the same word, the present heavens and earth have been stored up for fire. They are being kept for the day of judgment, when ungodly people will be destroyed.
Every time I look at that massive pile of enormous stones from the Temple, they are visible evidence that God’s Word will come to pass in every exacting prophetic word and statement!
The Bible is to be taken literally and seriously. It is the Word of God!
The Apostle Paul tells us, 2Ti 3:16 All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. 2Ti 3:17 God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.
Jesus said that as His followers, the Bible is to us the very bread of life!
Do not neglect a day without being in God’s Word. This book will keep you from sin and sin will keep you from this book.
Today, before you open God’s Word, pray and ask God to speak to you from it and then as you read it, He will!
Lastly remember the Bible says Jesus is coming back – and He is!
