Daily devotion – Wednesday 9th June 2021
Our first stop on the first day of our tour through the Holy Land is always the location of Caesarea. A beautiful beach that was once a busy harbour location. Paul took off on his missionary journey by boat and would later be imprisoned there. As you view it today, there is a marvellous amphitheatre, as well as a chariot racetrack that is in absolutely pristine condition.
But it was here at Caesarea that God did an incredible act which is always at the top of my thoughts as the bus pulls into Caesarea. It was here that the Holy Spirit fell wonderfully upon a Roman by the name of Cornelius.
As we step off the tour bus, we walk back into the book of Acts….
“Acts 10:1 There was a certain man in Caesarea called Cornelius, a centurion of what was called the Italian Regiment, 2 a devout man and one who feared God with all his household, who gave alms generously to the people, and prayed to God always. 3 About the ninth hour of the day he saw clearly in a vision an angel of God coming in and saying to him, “Cornelius!”
4 And when he observed him, he was afraid, and said, “What is it, lord?” So he said to him, “Your prayers and your alms have come up for a memorial before God. 5 Now send men to Joppa, and send for Simon whose surname is Peter.”
Why did the Lord send an angel to tell Cornelius to find Peter? Why didn’t the angel himself share the Gospel with Cornelius?
It was not the job of angels to share the Gospel!
It’s yours and mine. God could thunder the Gospel from the clouds if He so desired. But He has chosen to use you and me as instruments to tell people His Good News. If we could get it through our heads that the Gospel really is Good News, we would not need classes or motivational speakers on witnessing.
Telling people that the Lord loves them, that every sin they have ever committed, are committing, or ever will commit is forgiven because of Jesus death on the Cross, is not a burden. It’s a privilege!
Talking about religion is a pain; but sharing the Gospel is absolute joy!
Daniel 12:3 says… whose who turn many to righteousness shall shine as the stars forever. If you are a soul winner, a Good News sharer, you are going to shine – not only in Heaven but here on earth as well.
How long has it been since you looked someone in the eye and said, “I have some Good News for you?” A week, a month or longer?
If you feel dull and burned out, share the Gospel and shine once again.
Step into the book of Acts right where you are, start sharing the Gospel to someone, its Good News….it is amazing!
