Pastor Keith   -

What is the Church?

The importance of the Church can scarcely be overstated. Yet somehow the Church in Australia has become diminished in the eyes of those who call themselves followers of Christ.

We need to remember that God purchased the Church with the blood of His own Son –
Act 20:28 “Therefore take heed to yourselves and to all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood.

The Church is that which Jesus Christ loves, nourishes, and cherishes – Eph 5:25
Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her,

Eph 5:29 For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as the Lord does the church.

He shall present to Himself blames in all her glory one day soon!
Eph 5:27 that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish.

Today, the building of Christ’s Church constitutes Christ’s principal work in the world today – yet sadly many believers by name, treat the Church with little thought in importance in their lives giving just a 90 minute visit on a Sunday monring.

Let us remember that the word ‘Church’ is derived from the Greek word KYRIAKON which means “belonging to the Lord.”

The Church today still stands unique in the purposes of God. Jesus said, “I will build My Church!” That is His special work today.

We see biblically how important and precious the Church is to Jesus Christ – ask yourself do you see it in the same view?

To neglect the Lord’s Day by gathering in Christ’s Church is to slight Christ Himself. It is to blunt the testimony of His resurrection, and to miss the benefits of the ministry and protection of corporate worship.

Let us be each be vital members of this blessed living organism founded by our Lord and be part of His ongoing work in this blessed time of grace.
