Daily devotion – Saturday 3rd July 2021
Finally, before we leave the beautiful location of the Garden Tomb, we gather in our tour group for a special time of communion.
How wonderful it is to be able to celebrate the Lord’s Supper within in few metres of the empty tomb.
It is always such a very different communion service given the location and having just stood where Christ’s body was laid.
The impact is very personal, the reading of the Scriptures carry a power and a resonance that makes this gathering a moment to never forget.
As I take the bread and drink the cup, I cannot help but be overwhelmed by the intimacy of this time. My heart again is overwhelmed with the sacrifice that Jesus did for me!
Here lays the heart of the Gospel, and that is that God demonstrated His love for me by His giving of His only begotten Son, to die for my sins, that I might be saved.
John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
Do you know how much God loves you today? His love for you is not predicated on your goodness, your talents or your achievements.
Paul tells us that because ……God’s love has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us. 6 For while we were still helpless, at the right time, Christ died for the ungodly. 7 For rarely will someone die for a just person - though for a good person perhaps someone might even dare to die. 8 But God proves his own love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
And Jesus resurrection powerfully speaks to us each time we remember Him, that His love continues for us now as He is seated at the right hand of His Father.
This is why we should look with joy and eager anticipation to Christ’s return, because the One who loves us so much is coming to take us to be with Him forever!
That is what makes the message of Christ’s return a message of love.
The love of God for those for whom He died – is that you today?
