Daily devotion – Saturday 4th September 2021
A few years back, there was a popular trend for all businesses to create mission statements. So popular was this that even Churches began to follow this business philosophy and seek to come up with catchy slick marketing statements to identify what they were about.
I love the Bible because the Gospel itself is simple yet amazingly powerful – captured in one verse in particular – John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”
Jesus gave the Church His mission statement for what we are to do. When a Church seeks to identify what its mission statement is, we have no need to look to the business world, the marketing strategists, no Jesus gave the Church, His Church, His mission statement stated clearly and succinctly.
It is – Matthew 28: 18 “And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen
In Mark’s Gospel, He even made it shorter, so that we could never forget what the Churches mission from Christ is for all of us – Mark 16: 15 And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. 16 He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.”
You and I never have to ponder what we are about, what we should do, where we should go or what we should say. Jesus gave each and everyone of us His mission statement! The important thing is now to fulfil Christ’s Great Commission!
May you now seek to fulfil it in your life and may we as a Church here at Calvary Chapel Secret Harbour never stray from THE mission that our Lord has commanded us to do before His return.
