Daily devotion – Wednesday 22nd September 2021
Prayer – we looked at the Lord’s direction for us when we pray last Sunday morning.
Jesus followed up His words which were as a response to a question by His disciples to be taught – “Lord teach us to pray…”
Jesus went on to talk about our necessity for persistence in our praying.
Luke 11:8 “I say to you, though he will not rise and give to him because he is his friend, yet because of his persistence he will rise and give him as many as he needs.
9 “So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 10 For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.”
Many people have a huge problem at this point – why must I keep asking, keep seeking, keep knocking..?
There is a reason – God is not trying to be difficult or play hard to get. Nor is He treating us as such to have us beg!
No, we need to persist in prayer because it helps us determine that which is important to us!
We are often like children, but not in a good way – we want this, demand that, then a couple of days later we want something else entirely different.
I believe the Lord teaches us to pray, to be persistent in our prayers, to help us sort through what really is important to us.
But there is more to this too!
I said it on Sunday, and I will say it again now, our Heavenly Father enjoys being with us.
If He gave us what we asked for the first time every time, He knows us well enough to know we would just grab the goods and go.
The very fact that we must come to Him repeatedly helps us to mature and see that, in the end, it was His fellowship we really desired all along!
Enjoy every day of your new life in prayer, that is in beautiful communion with He who loves you so!
