Revelation 2: 1 “To the angel of the church of Ephesus write,
‘These things says He who holds the seven stars in His right hand, who walks in the midst of the seven golden lampstands: 2 “I know your works, your labor, your patience, and that you cannot bear those who are evil. And you have tested those who say they are apostles and are not, and have found them liars; 3 and you have persevered and have patience, and have labored for My name’s sake and have not become weary. 4 Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love.”
The people of the Church of Ephesus had some great commendations given to them by Jesus. They worked hard, they were patient in the things of the Lord, they were doctrinally on the ball.
But they had left their first love. Not lost their first love. When you lose something you don’t know where it is. But when you leave something, you know where it is. Jesus explained how to get back what they had left.
He told them to “…5 Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent and do the first works, or else I will come to you quickly and remove your lampstand from its place—unless you repent.”
Do you ‘remember’ how you used to be on fire, absolutely deadly serious about your commitment to the Lord?” How you would pray each day, spend time reading God’s Word each day, be serving in His Church, sharing the Gospel with people you met at every opportunity!”
Jesus says – go back to doing this again, go back to your first love, how you used to be with the Lord.
The great evangelist, Billy Sunday was told by another preacher three things to do to ensure he would never backslide, to never leave his first love.
1. Spend 15 minutes each day speaking to God.
2. Spend 15 minutes each day letting God speak to you through His Word.
3. Spend 15 minutes each day sharing the with someone the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
This week have you left your first love? Are you NOT doing what you did when you were zealous for the Lord?
Repent, turn back, and begin to do these things again and let Christ be your first love once more!
