Be transformed by the renewing of your mind – Romans 12:2
Our minds are powerful things. The thoughts that flash through them often dictate our emotions and our actions. So often they can mislead us, enclose in on us and leave us in despair.
The Bible teaches that our minds are to be brought under control, the control of Christ. Why? How we act will be determined by how we think. If God is to change our lives, He must first change our minds.
The human mind cannot be a vacuum. I often ponder the ‘truth’ behind the saying, ‘make your mind blank?’ Our mind will either be filled with good or evil. It will be filled either with Christ or with carnality. What will make the difference?
It depends upon what we allow to enter our mind!
Negatively, our minds must be turned away from evil. We must be careful of what television shows we allow ourselves to watch, what type of books we allow ourselves to read, the things that occupy our thoughts.
But it is not enough to put bad thoughts aside, positively they must be replaced with good thoughts – Phl 4:8 – Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
Thoughts shaped by God and His Word we need to fill our minds with – by His Word, by prayer and by worship and by fellowship with other Christians.
Deliberately turn away from every evil thought today and ask God to fill your mind instead with Himself from this moment on.
