Daily devotion – age is no excuse
Luke 1:28 “And having come in, the angel said to her, “Rejoice, highly favored one, the Lord is with you; blessed are you among women!”
31 And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name JESUS.”
Mary was a just 12 -14 years of age and a virgin. She was engaged to a godly man by the name of Joseph, yet she was to be made pregnant supernaturally by the Holy Spirit.
People would talk, shame would be attached to the pregnancy, and Joseph would probably leave her. But by faith Mary said to the angel Gabriel, “I am the Lord’s servant. May it be to me as you have said.” – Luke 1:38
Young Mary accepted God’s will for her life, no matter what it might cost her. Following her example, I pray that God would give each of us His grace to be faithful to Him, no matter what price I may be called on to pay.
Lastly, parents of today seem to have changed drastically in their expectations of children’s responsibilities and behaviour. Little is expected of children and thus we have a generation of young ones who are excused for tardiness, immaturity, and accountability. Where little is expected, little will be achieved.
Let us remember that Samuel was just a child when God called him to serve Him and that Mary was a but a young girl, yet she would give birth to the Messiah.
Therefore, as parents we should ensure that our children are raised as Paul reminds us, “…up in the training and admonition of the Lord.” – Ephesians 6:4
Let us all follow Mary’s example, and by faith, let God have His way completely and without restraint in our lives this week.
