Daily devotion – the Name
Matthew 1:21 “And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name JESUS, for He will save His people from their sins.”
Over 2,000 years ago, on a night the world has come to call Christmas, a very young Jewish maiden went through an experience countless mothers had undergone before her. Mary brought forth a child, a baby boy.
But this Child, this birth, was not like any other in the history of the world. For this Child did not have a human father. For the angel had promised, “The Holy Spirit will overshadow you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you.” Luke 1:35.
In beautiful simplicity and humility, the Virgin Mary responded, “Let it be to me according to your word.” – Luke 1:38
But it also was like no other birth because of the One who was born. For this was no ordinary Child. This was the unique Son of God, sent from Heaven to save us from our sins.
Let us in the business and clamor of the season, not lose sight of the miracle of that first Christmas.
Let us be as the shepherds, that first cold night, be eager to see He who was born King, and let us be as the Magi, the wise men, let us too bow down before Him in worship – for unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given, and the government will be upon His shoulder, and His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace…..
What a name! But what a Child!
For He is the Saviour of the world……..
