Daily devotion – the Truth
Jesus said, “I am the Light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness.” – John 8:12.
How much has the Church changed and accepted as “OK” behaviour or lifestyle in recent years? Much!
The Apostle John said – 1Jo 1:5 This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all. 1Jo 1:6 If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth.
Here at Calvary Chapel Secret Harbour, along with all the Calvary Chapels around the world, we place a tremendous emphasis on teaching God’s Word – book by book, chapter by chapter and verse by verse. It is interesting when criticism comes our way, it is usually because we take the Bible seriously and literally. We believe it is the very Word of God. But when someone drifts willingly away from God’s Word and begins to live in a way the Bible teaches is ungodly, those that do so must seek some manner in which to defend their sinful or rebellious lifestyle.
But the Bible won’t allow you to have your cake and eat it too – or in other words, say that you are a Christian, yet walk in darkness.
To do so cheapens the sacrifice and death of Jesus on the Cross at Calvary. That is a sad and gross tragedy!
It is so sad when Christian or Church attending parents allow their children to fall away to the lies of the enemy without a whimper. What has allowed things to get this far? What went wrong? Such a thing does not happen overnight.
It’s when we play with God thinking that we can say and do one thing and pretend to be something else. Parenting and living for Christ are both serious matters.
Maybe you have allowed your child, your son or your daughter to be carried away into darkness and you fear losing them even more if you admonish or correct them about how they are living an ungodly life. If they are walking in darkness, they are in danger of being lost to Christ unless you pray, unless you share the truth of God’s Word with them now. Do not fall for the lie of the enemy. There is time now for you to give your son and daughter the truth of God’s Word and also the danger of rejecting it.
You have done this previously when they were little about crossing the road, talking to strangers, keeping away from electric power points. You did all those things because you loved them.
Show them you still love them by not condoning sinful living, but by you living for God, you walking in the Light and you concerned for their very soul. There is hope. God is still working.
Nothing is impossible with God. But if you do nothing, then what possibly will change?
It’s never too late to reaffirm the Truth of the Bible to your loved ones, to emphasise again the grace of the Gospel, and the love that is found in God only when we walk in the Light.
