Daily devotion – Wonderful….
He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. – Isaiah 9:6
The dictionary gives the meaning of the word wonderful as anything that is so unusual or magnificent that it causes wonder and amazement.
If Jesus name is “Wonderful”, then there will be nothing dull about His reign when He is seated finally in the City of Jerusalem. As “Counselor” He has the wisdom to rule justly; and as the “Mighty God”, He has the power to execute His wise plans.
“Everlasting Father”, does not suggest that the Son is also the Father, for each Person of the Godhead is distinct. “Father of eternity” would be a better translation. Among the Jews, the word “father” means ‘originator’ or ‘source’.
If you want anything eternal, you must get it from Jesus Christ; He is the “Father of eternity”.
But Jesus was wonderful in His life. He mixed with sinners, yet His enemies could find not one flaw in His character. His miracles and His teaching both testified to His divine authority.
Jesus Christ was also wonderful in His death. He died for others just as He had lived for others: To make our salvation possible. And this death led to the wonderful, glorious Resurrection, opening for us the door to Heaven and eternal life.
Yes, my Saviour my Lord, is truly wonderful. Do you today know Him as Wonderful?
He offers you His great love today, right now, if you would simply ask Him to be Lord of your life, to forgive you of your sins, then you too will experience the full meaning of He who is Wonderful!
