Daily devotion – God’s cure for discouragement
God’s answer to discouragement – “Wait on the Lord; be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart.” – Psalm 27:14
This text is a promise from God to you when you are discouraged – the verse tells us that God SHALL STRENGTHEN your heart! The root of discouragement is found in unbelief. Maybe as you are reading this very devotion, you are in that valley. God knows and this verse is for you right now. Maybe things are going good for you at the moment. Store this verse in your memory and pull it out like a mighty sword when the wave of discouragement heads your way.
Often people are discouraged because they think they do not have enough money – within your you aren’t convinced God can supply your needs. Or you are perhaps frustrated at work – and you refuse to believe God can help you find contentment. Or maybe you are worried about your health – and you don’t even stop to consider that your very life is in God’s hands.
Discouragement can be like a cloud that seems to be parked forever over your head and no light or sunshine seems to be able to break through on you. In the case of spiritual discouragement, Jesus Christ, is eclipsed in our lives. Satan uses discouragement to thwart the work of God in our lives. Discouragement blinds our eyes to the blessed mercy of our Lord and makes us see only the gloom of unfavourable circumstances.
The only way out, the only way to dispel such discouragement in our lives is to turn our eyes in faith to God. Believing that He loves us and is still in control of the future – because He does, and He is! The Bible tells us – “Wait on the Lord….and He SHALL strengthen your heart.” It’s His promise….!
