Daily devotion – God’s Word implanted
The power of the Bible
Isa 40:8 The grass withers, the flower fades, But the word of our God stands forever.”
During WW2, a missionary in China was imprisoned by the Japanese but managed to smuggle the Gospel of John in with her during her incarceration. Each night, she would bring it out and with the covers of the bed pulled over her head she would memorize one verse. She did this each night until her release from prison.
When she was released, unlike most other prisoners, she left with a spring in her step and a joy glowing from her countenance. Many thought she had been brainwashed during her imprisonment. But later she was interviewed by a journalist from LIFE magazine who said, “She has been brainwashed for sure. God washed her brain!”
Our grandkids are always coming up to us and sharing their latest memory verse. They are simply amazing at how well they do this. I urge you to not only read God’s Word but also to memorize it as well.
You may find it hard at first, but as you repeat a verse or a group of verses over and over to yourself, you will find they begin to take root in your soul. The Psalmist wrote – Psa 119:11 Your word I have hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against You.
Then when adversity or trouble assails you, those very verses will come back and give you hope.
Today, is God’s Word stored up in your heart and mind for the future? Start today if you are empty and fill your soul with the very bread of life!
