Daily devotion – Your Easter story!
The movie, “The Passion of the Christ” is a 2004 American epic biblical drama film produced, directed and co-written by Mel Gibson.
The year the movie came on the scene, I purchased about 20 plus copies and gave them out to players at the Fremantle Football Club at that time. It was just before Easter that I did this and thought it would be a great tool to reach the players with the truth of the Gospel and Christ’s sacrifice.
One unsolicited comment I got from one the main star players at the time was, “That movie if the most brutal movie I have ever watched”.
The story of Easter is a truly brutal tale of events like no other that I know. The Bible does not leave much to our imagination as it goes into great detail of all that Jesus suffered, both physically, mentally and emotionally.
When we take a literal and visceral examination of the Easter story, there is much brutality, violence, hatred in man’s part but equally vivid is the calm, peace, passion, love and grace of God seen as well.
As we head into Palm Sunday this weekend, may our minds be filled with both sides of this amazing event in the history of our world. When God, in the person of the Son of Man, revealed to all the world, that the God of Heaven was a God of love and that His plan for each of us who will accept it, is to be forgiven, loved and changed by His grace and power.
When you are sharing the story of Easter with anyone, be it your children, a friend or a complete stranger be sure to give both sides of the story. What happened to Jesus was cruel and brutal, but in all this wickedness and darkness of humanity, in stepped the God of Light and Love to bring hope and freedom from the worst travesty in history. The death of a completely innocent Man who is indeed the Son of God.
My prayer is that the Holy Spirit would stir your heart to read each of the Gospel accounts that cover all the events of Easter.
Because Easter happened for a purpose, God planned it down to the last detail. In His plan you play a pivotal part in why it happened.
Let this Easter and every Easter that follows be personal.
May your heart soften more and more as you see the love of God portrayed in the death and sacrifice of His only Son for you!
Jhn 3:16 “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
