Daily devotion – a moment in a day
Matthew 6:6 But when you pray, go away by yourself, shut the door behind you, and pray to your Father in private. Then your Father, who sees everything, will reward you.
We are created in God’s image and within us is wired in our DNA the need to be alone with God. To spend time in His presence. It’s akin to the desire a child has to want to sit on their mother’s knee. There is just something that deep within our hearts needs to find this place of peace, of comfort, of rest and security.
Whilst the Bible teaches us that gathering together as the body of Christ to pray is an integral part of the power and life of the Church. Equally as important is the habit of spending time alone with God in prayer. A certain location, a place where you are not going to be distracted, a place where you can open your heart before God and enjoy His love and kindness being shed upon you and a place where He imparts His wisdom to you.
As you look at Jesus life as recorded in all four Gospels, they each detail to us how Jesus had this time alone with His Heavenly Father every day and often every night as well.
When you do this the cares of the world will be placed into their right places in your life and God’s grace and strength will override every storm and trial in your life.
In addition, it is at these times, with Bible open in hand, that the Holy Spirit will speak very clearly to you and at the same time refresh you with His power.
Begin the habit if you have not already, of spending that moment, that time, in God’s presence alone! As you do this you will soon discover that this discipline and place in your life will be the most sort after time in your ever busy days!
It is at these times that God will again tell you of His love for you, and He will again reassure you not to worry as He has everything, everyone and every matter in His control.
And He will meet you there every time!
