Daily devotion – twisting God’s Word
Gal 3:28 There is no longer Jew or Gentile, slave or free, male and female. For you are all one in Christ Jesus.
What does this verse mean? It is being used today, erroneously and blasphemously, as supporting that there is biblical support for other identities other than male and female. Not so!
Paul is telling us in this verse that all believers, that is someone who has surrendered their life to Jesus Christ, confessed their sins before God, and received the grace and forgiveness of God through Jesus Christ’s death and resurrection are one in Him.
Paul is saying literally, since all ‘believers’ are one on Christ, none is spiritually superior over another as was such thinking between Jew and Gentile, man over woman, free man over slave.
The believing Jew is not more privileged before God than a believing Gentile. A believing slave does not rank higher than a believing free person, a believing man is not superior to a believing woman. Back in those days some Jewish men prayed, “I thank God that Thou hast not made me a Gentile, a slave, or a woman.”
Paul cut across these distinctions and stated they do not exist in the body of Christ so far as spiritual privilege and position are concerned.
Elsewhere, while affirming the coequality of man and woman in Christ, Paul did nonetheless make it clear that there is a headship of the man over the woman – 1 Cor 11:3 But there is one thing I want you to know: The head of every man is Christ, the head of woman is man, and the head of Christ is God – and that there are distinctions in the area of spiritual service – 1 Tim 2:12.
In these Last Days beware of those who would twist and strangle the Word of God to suit their own ungodly lifestyles.
Jude 1:4 I say this because some ungodly people have wormed their way into your churches, saying that God’s marvellous grace allows us to live immoral lives. The condemnation of such people was recorded long ago, for they have denied our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ.
