Daily devotion – A change of attitude is needed.
Welcome to Christianity!
So often, the attitude and state of mind of many Christians today about their faith is apologetic or kept under cover. There seems to be an often embarrassment about what Church is, what the Bible says, and we are our own worst enemies in proclaiming the Gospel of good news.
I often think that when the Church service begins I should actually shout out, “Welcome to Christianity – we are privileged to be here!” In other words, the blessing is being able to be in Church, not thanking people for coming. It’s actually the other way around. We should be thankful that we are allowed and able to be there.
To know Christ, to have our sins forgiven, to know that when we leave this world we are going to be in Heaven are just some of the amazing blessings that we have as followers of Jesus Christ. But somehow, we seem to think that we have to coax people to Christ, coax them to come to Church as if it’s a favour they are doing for God. That’s not right!
Take how you go about your week or answer questions about, ‘what you got up to on the weekend’ – many Christians respond to this beautiful opportunity to witness for Christ by saying, “Nothing much!”
The Apostles all died for their faith except for the Apostle John who was exiled on the isle of Patmos. That’s witnessing! That’s making a statement about the very privilege they each felt in knowing Christ – that their lives were given in martyrdom.
Things need to change, our attitude needs to change, we need to recognise the privilege of our salvation and the enormous cost to have it by our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
Mat 10:33 “But whoever denies Me before men, him I will also deny before My Father who is in heaven.
This Sunday, when you are seated in Church, take a moment and give thanks to God, for none of us deserve to be there. None of us deserve God’s grace nor His mercy.
But He gave it to us!
No more apologising or making people think that they are doing God a favour with their presence. Instead, maybe we each Sunday should be on our knees, humbly before God, thanking Him over and over, for what He has done for us, and that we are able to be in the body of Christ – the Church!
