Daily devotion – feelings

Pastor Keith   -

Our emotions are a tricky thing. There are days when things are going well, and it seems all is good. There are other times when you are oppressed or even days when one is melancholy.

The trouble with our emotions is that they are never constant. They rise and fall and often we do not know why the fluctuation.

As Christians, we still have emotions, that is obvious. But as followers of Christ we need to grow up and be mature about ‘feelings’ and not have them influence us. Instead we need to be staying focused and measured with how we live and how we behave.

The prophet Jeremiah, gives us some wonderful advice on how to deal with our emotions and what we need to understand about them. Jer 17:9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?

Our lives and what is true in our lives is not predicated on how or what we feel. Jesus said, Jhn 14:6 I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

The truth of what is real and factual is contained in Christ and in His Word. This is why we daily need to read God’s Word and spend time in it with Him. For in those times our feelings are brought under the governance and sovereignty of God’s throne and His rule.

So, when our feelings or emotions are seeking to rule over our lives, we need to cast our cares before God and have Him stabilize our thoughts and therefore our emotions in what is right and true.

Jesus said a wonderful statement when He said, Jhn 8:32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

It is so much better to have the Lord who never changes, who is the same yesterday, today and forever, in charge of my life. Every part of it, including my emotions.

King David said, Psa 16:11 You will show me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.

Bless you.
