Daily devotion – Have you finished?
“I have finished the work…. – John 17:4
I purchased a wheelbarrow this week and in order to save some money, I bought the one in a kit. In other words, you have to assemble it yourself. This turned out to be something I wish I had never done. Midway through the assembly process, having had it come apart on me a number of times and having to connect and disconnect in order to fit parts that came later, I stopped and had a time of regathering my patience to complete the task. Back at it a second time until final completion. Done – finished!
Our Lord said, “I have finished the work.” He did not say, “I started it”, not did He say, “I thought about it,” or “I was going to get around to it.” The roads from Bible studies and Bible conferences are littered with the broken commitments of men and women who began but never finished what God told them to do.
I am so glad that after Noah finished the frame of the ark, he did not say, “Close enough. I don’t think we will need a roof.” No, he finished the work. He completed the task. If he had not, we would all be sunk!
May I ask you as you read this? If the doctor advised you that you only had a short time to live, could you say,”Father, I finished the work you gave me to do.” Or would you say, “I meant to get to it but…”
What has God called you to do? What has He spoken to your heart about? More importantly, have you finished it?
There are only three words that will matter..it is finished!
I am so thankful that Jesus finished His work…all of it!
