Daily devotion – wisdom
Wisdom – if ever we needed wisdom, it is now! For the Christian, wisdom comes from God’s Word and the Holy Spirit working in and through us, guarding us, guiding us, and moving us into the centre of God’s path for us to walk.
Often, I hear of people making big decisions and they have gone ahead and decided an action or a direction without any consultation in prayer with God at all. They just decide themselves.
Earthly wisdom based upon the five human senses can often produce confusion and can lead to a skewed perspective…, “well the money is better, or it is too good to not take…”
The result of faulty human perception frequently leads to the establishment of goals that are off target and unproductive in the things that truly matter for you or your family for eternity.
In sharp contrast, the wisdom given by the Holy Spirit yields clarity and precision. The presence of the Holy Spirit and your seeking His wisdom BEFORE you make a decision will see you being where God wants you and your family.
People who make decisions in a hurry, on the spur of the moment or in crisis can end up with decisions being made when not thinking clearly.
All of us face crises and calamities, but seeking God’s wisdom at such times helps us walk through those times of hardship, suffering, and persecution and emerge stronger!
The story of Job in the Bible us an example of this. Job, we know suffered deeply – he lost his family, fortune, reputation, and health – but in the end, he submitted himself to God’s wisdom and the Bible tells us, Job 42:12 “So the LORD blessed the latter end of Job more than his beginning…”
Job’s family, fortune, and health were restored, and he lived after his time of suffering one hundred and forty years and “Job 42:16 After this lived Job an hundred and forty years, and saw his sons, and his sons’ sons, even four generations.”
If we choose to follow God’s wisdom in the good times and in times of difficulty, we will win every time. We may experience material, financial, or relational loss – or even experience death – but what we gain on the other side of life’s trials is far better than anything we may have lost if we are trusting the Holy Spirit to guide us with His wisdom.
We will come out deeper in our faith, stronger in our confidence in the Lord, more courageous in our witness, and freer in our spirits.
Choose wisely – means let God make the way clear for you to follow patiently.
Proverbs 3: Trust in the LORD with all your heart,
And lean not on your own understanding;
6 In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He shall direct your paths.
7 Do not be wise in your own eyes;
Fear the LORD and depart from evil.
8 It will be health to your flesh,
And strength to your bones.
