Daily devotion – sand or Rock
Mat 7:24 “Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock.”
Every Sunday people come and go from Church. Do they leave the same as they came? We are not talking about a change of appearance but a change of heart. As they sat under God’s Word, as they worshipped with all their heart, as they gave of their tithes and offerings. Did they leave the same men, women, boys or girls as they came?
Jesus tells the story of two men building houses. Both men used the same materials. Both built in the same geographical location. But one man’s house collapsed, and one man’s house remained standing.
The difference between the two houses was in the foundations. One was built on Rock and the other just sand.
Who is the one who builds their house upon the Rock?
The one who hears God’s Word when its preached and then obeys it!
Who is the one who builds their house upon sand?
The one who hears God’s Word but then forgets all about it and does nothing with it!
One of the great dangers for us who love the Scriptures is to think that ‘hearing’ is equivalent to ‘doing’. To foolishly conclude that because we hear the truth and agree with it, that then we are automatically ‘practicing’ the truth.
But we are like the foolish man until we say, “Your words are right, Lord, and I need to obey it now in my life, to take heed of it seriously. Help me Lord to live as You desire now!”
The wise man not only hears Jesus’ Words but he also puts them into practice. It is this man’s house that will remain standing, no matter the storms!
