Daily devotion – Scotland
Greater love has no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends – John 15:13
The nation of Scotland was revived when John Knox prayed, “Lord give me Scotland, or I die.”
But many people don’t know is what Knox wrote concerning the answer to that very prayer. The Lord responded in his heart saying, “First die, then I will give you Scotland!”
We pray sometimes, “Lord make this relationship work, or I am going to die.”
“Die first”, the Lord says.
We continue our third part of our series on marriage this Sunday, “God speaks to Wives”, before God speaks to Christian children. Whether it be Christian husband, wife or child, the same sacrifice applies to all.
Self must be replaced!
Lay down your life for your wife, husband, your neighbour, your friend. That is not only the proof of your love, but it is the pathway to love because love is not some feeling you hope returns, not some kind of elusive mystical emotion.
Love is the decision to die to your dreams, your desires, and your needs for your friend, your husband, your wife, your neighbour, your kids.
…….and God gave John Knox Scotland!
