Daily devotion – strangers

Pastor Keith   -

Hebrews 11: 8 By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to the place which he would receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going. 9 By faith he dwelt in the land of promise as in a foreign country, dwelling in tents with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise; 10 for he waited for the city which has foundations, whose builder and maker is God.

People these days are always trying to identify with something. It may be a fashion, a political group or even a certain gender orientation.

But the believer, our identity is not found in this world or its ways at all. Paul tells us that our citizenship is in Heaven. Phl 3:20 For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ,

That is why the older I grow both in years and time in my relationship with God, I understand more and more our father of faith Abraham. Abraham whilst he lived in this world, he was not part of this world. In other words, he was a man of God, led by God and who looked to live with God.

Our world grows stranger to me each day as it continues to spiral into sin and depravity.

My values, my identity are NOT found in this world or its ways. God’s Word guides me and instructs me in the way of righteousness and from it I will not veer.

This week as you go about your daily routine, if you sense a separation within you, it’s that you are growing more and more into God’s image as He changes you day by day. Let us not be swayed or moulded by the trends and movements of the world. But instead let us be living sacrifices, supple clay in the hand of our Master.

Let us remember we are citizens of Heaven on a mission. That at the end of our mission we will be called home to where we belong.

Until then, be in the world but not of the world!
