Daily devotion – worship

Pastor Keith   -

Matthew 26: 6 And when Jesus was in Bethany at the house of Simon the leper, 7 a woman came to Him having an alabaster flask of very costly fragrant oil, and she poured it on His head as He sat at the table.

We know from the Gospel of John that this woman was none other than Mary, the sister of Martha and Lazarus. She is seen three times in the Bible, each time she is found at the feet of Jesus. Mary was a worshipper!

When do you really become a worshipper? It occurs when you are broken, when you are at your wits’ end, when suddenly things are not going to plan. In fact, they are going all wrong! It is then when you humble yourself before the Lord and turn to Him in worship that something amazing happens.

Worship not only comes from brokenness, but true worship is often costly. Mary’s act of worship cost her 300 pence, or one year’s salary at that time. What does worship cost you and I? Our image, our reputation. Just as Judas would question Mary’s act of worship, there will be those who say to us, “Quit trying to be so holy. Do something more practical and stop wasting your time and money?”

However, although worship can be costly and misunderstood, worship is always beneficial. After Mary wiped the feet of Jesus her hair, do you know what happened?

Her hair took on the same fragrance as Jesus’ feet. That’s what worship does. When you worship the Lord, you take on the fragrance of the Lord.

Not only that, but John also tells us that after Mary broke the alabaster box, the entire house was filled with the aroma of the ointment.

Turn your life and your home into a place of worship this week and be found at the feet of Jesus!
