Daily devotion – Heaven our future

Pastor Keith   -

2Co 4:8 We are hard-pressed on every side, yet not crushed; we are perplexed, but not in despair…

Helen and I met and prayed with a family member today who is terminally ill. We asked God to bring him peace, to watch over him and comfort him, to be with him. We prayed with Heaven in view even though he will soon walk through the valley of the shadow of death.

To keep Heaven in view is not escapism a some would argue. If anything, a firm faith in the future should make us more responsible in the present. All around us are people who never give a moment’s thought to Heaven or eternity. How will they learn of the future if we do not tell them in the present?

The real escapism, I would contend, is refusing to face the future that God has prepared for us!

In these days of darkness and upheaval and uncertainty, the trusting and forward looking Christian remains optimistic and joyful, knowing that Jesus Christ soon will rule, and “if we endure, we shall also reign with Him.” 2 Tim 2:12

To God be the glory!
