Daily devotion – learning from the youngest

Pastor Keith   -

Luke 2:40 And the Child grew and became strong in spirit, filled with wisdom; and the grace of God was upon Him.
41 His parents went to Jerusalem every year at the Feast of the Passover. 42 And when He was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem according to the custom of the feast. 45 So when they did not find Him, they returned to Jerusalem, seeking Him. 46 Now so it was that after three days they found Him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers, both listening to them and asking them questions. 47 And all who heard Him were astonished at His understanding and answers. 48 So when they saw Him, they were amazed; and His mother said to Him, “Son, why have You done this to us? Look, Your father and I have sought You anxiously.”
49 And He said to them, “Why did you seek Me? Did you not know that I must be about My Father’s business?”

Faith is not made up by years. The faith we have is a gift from God and knowing this we sometimes are amiss with just how much faith children can have.

We are always easy to dismiss the smallest saints when they speak out with absolute faith their love and trust in God. How often we at times seek to temper their trust in God to their detriment and ours.

Jesus was the Son of God we know. But the Bible tells us His humanity was real just like ours. The Bible is very strong on the faith of children in many places besides this of 12-year-old Jesus. Who could forget little Samuel or the little boy who brought his small lunch for Jesus to use to feed a multitude.

The lesson in this case and often is for us when around faith filled children is for us to learn from them! Not the other way round.

Luk 9:47 And Jesus, perceiving the thought of their heart, took a little child and set him by Him,
Luk 9:48 and said to them, “Whoever receives this little child in My name receives Me; and whoever receives Me receives Him who sent Me. For he who is least among you all will be great.”

Luk 18:17 “Assuredly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will by no means enter it.”

The next time you are around the smallest saints, take heed, listen as they speak of their great faith in their great God. Maybe we can learn from them at that moment to be like them.
